A new beginning.

OK, so I'm finally using my new diary with my new SCA name. I know, I know... about time. I figured that since it's really official now - my new name passed Laurel - I should quit being lazy and make the change. Not that much is really going to change about my diary, just the name on it and the look. In case you care, you can still read my old diary. Everybody update your buddy list!

So today I went and met with my friend Lisa's mom (hi Lisa!) who works in a store in Warrenton. She thought they might be interested in selling some of my mosaic stuff. It turns out that maybe my work is a little too artsy for their market, but her mom is going to check out some other places in Warrenton for me, and gave me a lead on a shop in The Plains that might be a better fit for my stuff. And Lisa (bless her heart!) bought a decorative plate as a housewarming gift for another of our college buddies. My first real piece sold! =) Thanks, sweetie.

These are the pieces I took to show Lisa's mom. I really like this triangle box. The tiles are vitreous glass with metallic "veins" in them. The sides of the box are divided diagonally in blue and the off-white, to carry on the triangle motif.

This one was pretty quick and simple to do. The shiny bits in the border are bronze-colored mirror glass. The rest is vitreous glass as well. I can think up lots more ideas for this sort of piece. This is the one Lisa bought.

This next one is one I started in my mosaic class earlier this spring. I finished it at home though. It's a jewelry box with divided sections and a small mirror inside the lid. The mosaic work is largely vitreous glass, but the white bumpy bits are flat-backed glass marbles. The twisted braid motif is a very classic one for mosaic; it's called guilloche. This box is my first attempt at that style. It's very Italian/Florentine in style - the colors are the same as the Italian flag, and the emblem of the city of Florence is a red fleur-de-lys on a white background.

The boxes are for sale! ;-) If anyone is interested in these pieces or something different, let me know! (OK, enough of the crass commercialism... when I get my business web page up, I'll let everyone know. And I mean everyone.)

Well, that's about it. The mosaic stuff is most of what I've been working on this week. Now I have to get ready for Pennsic. =)
